About St. Joseph
St. Joseph was built around 1830. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave. Notable features include stained-glass windows and a bellcote.
The building
St Joseph's is a detached five-bay double-height Catholic church on a cruciform plan, built c.1830. It features roughcast walls, a slate roof with red clay crested ridge tiles, and cross finials to the gables. The structure includes a cut-stone bellcote to the north-west gable, round-headed window openings with fixed-pane diamond-leaded stained glass, and oculus windows in the transept gables. The church stands set back from the road in its own grounds, which contain a graveyard with cut-stone grave markers dating from c.1830 to c.1950. A gateway to the north-west, dated 1912, comprises cut-granite piers with cross motifs and wrought iron gates.
