About Sligo Methodist Church

Sligo Methodist Church is a congregation of the Methodist Church in Ireland in Sligo, County Sligo. It is part of the North Connacht in the North Western District.

History

John Wesley, the first leader of the Methodist movement, visited Sligo 11 times between 1758 and 1789. A small number of Methodists opened a meeting house in Bridge Street about 1775, described in the congregation's own history as a small tumbledown building with a thatched roof. A new church opened in Linenhall Street, later renamed Old Market Street, in 1802.

The present building in Wine Street replaced it in 1832 and was completed at a cost of £800. The sanctuary was remodelled in 2009.
