About Rathmichael
Rathmichael was built between 1862 and 1863. It has a cruciform plan with a seven-bay nave, built of squared granite under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and mosaic work.
History
Designed by Benjamin Woodward and consecrated in 1864, the church was extended in 1869 and 1904, with later works attributed to William John Welland, William Gillespie, and Sir Thomas Newenham Deane. It features stained glass by An Túr Gloine, including the 1938 Erck Memorial Windows designed by Alfred Ernest Child and Catherine O'Brien. A brass plate commemorates eleven parish soldiers who died in the 1914-1918 war.
