About Raloo St Columba (Glenoe)
Raloo St Columba (Glenoe) is a Church of Ireland church in Raloo, County Antrim. It is one of the churches in the parish of Larne & Inver St Cedma (Larne), in the Diocese of Connor.
History
The church was built in 1842 at Gleno, on the site of Miss McClaverty's cottage, to serve the parish of Raloo. It was designed by Charles Lanyon, who also designed St John's, Glynn, in the same group of parishes. Following a major restoration, the church was dedicated as St Columba's by the Bishop of Connor on Easter Sunday 2006.
The building
The church is built of rough-hewn basalt, with quoins at all corners and wide but shallow breakfronts at each end. A decorative campanile stands over the west gable, and a small porch is attached to the centre of the south wall. It is situated on the top tier of the split-level village of Gleno, about four miles from Larne.
