About Our Lady of Mercy
Our Lady of Mercy dates from 1858 and is built in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave, built of squared limestone. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and buttressed walls.
The building
The church features rock-faced snecked limestone walls with stepped buttresses and a slate roof capped by red clay ridge tiles. The interior contains an exposed timber roof construction on cut-stone corbels, timber pews, and a Gothic-style reredos. The grounds include a gravel forecourt, a burial plot dated 1928 with cast-iron railings, and a pair of cut-stone Celtic cross-style grave markers from c.1900.
