About Kilpeacon St Beacon (Crecora)
Kilpeacon St Beacon (Crecora) was built in 1759. It has a cruciform plan, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, crenellated parapets and pinnacles.
History
The site originated as a chapel of ease in 1690, which later formed the nave of the current structure. A tower was added in 1759, but the church was burnt by fire in 1762 and rebuilt immediately. Transepts were added in 1819-20 by the Board of First Fruits, and a projecting chancel and vestry were appended in 1867.
