About Immaculate Heart of Mary
Immaculate Heart of Mary was built in 1863. It has a ten-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage bell tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and mosaic work.
History
Originally constructed as a chapel of ease to Saint Andrews, Westland Row, the church was designed by John Bourke and became a parish church in 1908. A spire was added in 1890 to a design by John Loftus Robinson. Fronting City Quay, it became known as the Docker’s Church, catering for local seamen and dockers.
