About Immaculate Conception Church, Ballymote
Immaculate Conception Church, Ballymote was built between 1855 and 1865 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a six-bay nave, built of ashlar stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, mosaic work and window tracery. It was designed by George Goldie.
The building
The interior has terrazzo aisles laid in an interlocking diamond-and-square pattern, timber boarding beneath the pews and nave roof trusses carried on stone corbels. A crocketed and corbelled cornice and fretwork panels occur between the rafters, while the grounds are bounded by rubble-stone walls and wrought-iron railings.
