Fisherwick Presbyterian Church

History

The congregation was founded in 1823 as Fisherwick Place Church and met in the centre of Belfast, in the building that later became Church House, the headquarters of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

By the end of the nineteenth century Belfast had expanded and many members had moved away from the city centre, and the Session decided that the church should move closer to the congregation. The original building was sold to the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and Fisherwick moved to the Malone Road, where a new church building opened in 1901. Halls were added in 1924, and there have been substantial alterations and renovations since, including a project costing £2.3m that was completed in 2019. Nine ministers served the congregation over its first 200 years.
