About Church of the Resurrection
Church of the Resurrection is a congregation of the Methodist Church in Ireland in Belfast, County Antrim. It is part of the Belfast Central & South in the North Eastern District.
History
The Church of Ireland chaplaincy to Queen's University Belfast opened in 1954 and grew to occupy Houses 16 to 22 on Elmwood Avenue. The Church of the Resurrection, together with the Oasis café, adjoined the residential and office space in House 22 and provided a space for Anglican worship. The Methodist chaplaincy to the university, with residency for the chaplain and for students, opened at numbers 24 to 26 Elmwood Avenue in 1974.
A covenant between the Church of Ireland and the Methodist Church in Ireland was signed on 26 September 2002, committing the two traditions to share a common life and mission and to grow together so that unity might be visibly realised. The two chaplaincies afterwards brought their work together under the name The Hub Belfast, and in 2014 a single chaplain was formally recognised by both parent traditions.
