About Dublin St Stephen
Dublin St Stephen was built between 1820 and 1824. It has a six-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows, a marble altar and an organ. It was designed by John Bowden.
History
Designed by John Bowden, the church was completed in 1824 by his assistant Joseph Welland after Bowden's death. In 1852, Frederick Darley extended the building by adding one bay and an apse. The structure is popularly known as the Pepper Cannister and stands within a classical setting framed by Georgian terraces on Mount Street Crescent.
