About Church of the Resurrection, Ballinfoyle

Church of the Resurrection, Ballinfoyle is a Roman Catholic parish church in Galway, Co. Galway. It is part of the Galway and Kilmacduagh Diocese.

History

The Church of the Resurrection was opened on 12 May 1984, its construction overseen by the parish priest of the time. Before the church was built the community gathered at 74 Tirellan Heights, which became known as St Mary's Hall and served for Mass and community events. The parish of the Resurrection itself was launched in 1987.

In September 2000 the parish was handed over to the custody of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. In 2005 an additional room was added over the sacristy for meetings and other events, known as the Upper Room, and was blessed by James McLoughlin, then Bishop of Galway.

A community of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary was established nearby at 16 Tirellan Heights on 16 August 1982, in a house named Cnoc Mhuire, the Hill of Mary. The sisters worked in the parish, starting the Legion of Mary and an annual Sale of Work, and preparing parents for the baptism of their children.
