About Church of the Immaculate Conception, Gainstown
Church of the Immaculate Conception, Gainstown was built around 1830. It has a three-bay nave and rendered walls. Notable features include stained-glass windows and window tracery.
The building
This detached Roman Catholic hall-style chapel was built c.1830, rebuilt c.1853 and renovated c.1950. It comprises a three-bay nave with a top-lit apsidal chancel added to the east end and a projecting gable-fronted porch to the west. The site includes a freestanding belfry added c.1950, which is similar to those at Loughanavally and Dysart, suggesting a common building scheme. A school previously stood to the rear.
