About Church of St Carthage
Church of St Carthage was built between 1856 and 1859. It has a simple single-cell form, built of squared stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and mosaic work.
Notable people
The church was erected under the aegis of Reverend Francis Prendergast PP (1782-1860). It received financial support from Sir Robert Shapland Carew (1787-1856) or Sir Robert Shapland Carew (1818-81) of Castleboro House. The building represents an important component of the mid nineteenth-century ecclesiastical heritage of Co. Wexford.
