About Church of St Alphonsus
Church of St Alphonsus was built between 1844 and 1848. It has a seven-bay nave, built of rubble stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
Notable features
The church was designed by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. It features an East Window (1848) designed by John Hardman and donated by John Hyacinth Talbot MP. A West Window (1953) was signed by Harry Clarke Stained Glass Studios. The interior includes Gothic-style timber stations painted by Reverend Edward A. Foran OSA and a Gothic-style reredos from 1898-9.
