About Castledermot St James
Castledermot St James was built between 1831 and 1832 in the Romanesque style. It has a simple single-cell form. Notable features include stained glass including a rose window, crenellated parapets and lancet windows.
History
The site of St James's Church in Castledermot, Co. Kildare, has a long ecclesiastical presence, with an earlier church dating to c.1150. The current structure was refronted in 1880. It stands alongside a tenth-century round tower and the remains of a twelfth-century church, forming the historic core of the settlement.
