About Bunclody St Mary (Newtownbarry)
Bunclody St Mary (Newtownbarry) was built between 1775 and 1776. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave. Notable features include a three-stage tower with an octagonal spire, stained glass including a rose window, buttressed walls and lancet windows.
History
Thomas Cooley signed the original design in 1776. The church was extended and reoriented in 1869, refronted in 1877–78 and reroofed in 1983–84; later design work by William Burges and an unfinished Hall-Dare memorial.
