About Blacklion Methodist Church
Blacklion Methodist Church was built in 1849 in the Gothic Revival style. The church has rendered walls under a pitched artificial slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows and crenellated parapets.
History
The church was built on the estate of Francis Charles Hassard. A stone plaque above the entrance refers to John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement, who is said to have visited Co. Cavan in the eighteenth century. A historic photograph in the porch shows the building with a central flue, indicating that a stove formerly stood in the widening of the centre aisle.
