About Ballintemple (St Patrick)
Ballintemple (St Patrick) was built in 1821 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a hall-and-tower form with a three-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
History
The Church of Ireland building was constructed in 1821, likely using funds from the Board of First Fruits. A chancel was added to the east in 1931. A cut stone plaque above the entrance records that William Magenis, Dean of Kilmore, and Revd James Pollock were associated with its erection. A pre-Reformation church is believed to have stood on the site of the earlier graveyard located across the road.
