About Strean Presbyterian Church
Strean Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland in Newtownards, County Down.
History
The congregation first met in 1865 in the Market House in Conway Square. The church was built in 1867 after Thomas Strean provided the money for the local community to form a new congregation and centre for worship in the town. It is built of Scrabo stone in a Gothic style.
Horatio Bonar preached the sermon when the church first opened, and Eric Liddell preached at Strean in the 1920s.
