About St. Patrick
St. Patrick is a Roman Catholic parish church in Ballymena, Co. Antrim. It is part of the Down and Connor Diocese.
History
Extra church accommodation had become necessary in the parish and the decision was taken to replace the earlier church at Crebilly with a new building, on a site donated by the Kearney family. The new Church of St Patrick was blessed and opened by Most Reverend Dr Mageean on 14 October 1961.
Notable features
The Stations of the Cross are in oils and were painted by a Dominican artist.
A picture of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour was blessed and dedicated in the church, the gift of a parishioner, Kieran McLaughlin, who had worked as a technician on a United States defence project within the Arctic circle. He saw the picture in place on a visit home before he was struck down by a kidney disease, and died within two weeks.
