About St Flannan’s
St Flannan’s is a Catholic church in the parish of Kilkee (Kilfearagh), in the Diocese of Killaloe.
History
A chapel is recorded at Lisdeen as early as 1760, and it served as the parish church until a new church was completed at Kilkee in 1831. Between 1806 and 1810 another church was built at Lisdeen, a small cruciform structure roofed with pointed flagstones. It was demolished in 1963, after the present St Flannan's, the second church in the parish, had been built at Garraun.
St Flannan's and the parish church at Kilkee were dedicated on the same day in July 1963.
The building
St Flannan's is a small church of simple design, built to accommodate 240 persons. The altar, seating and other furnishings were transferred to it from the old church at Kilkee.
Notable features
A stained glass window depicting St Flannan was dedicated on 18 December 2011 and is set in the sanctuary. The window was originally housed in the church at Kilkee.
