About St. Augustine
St. Augustine is a Roman Catholic parish church in Limerick, Co. Limerick. It is part of the Limerick Diocese.
Notable features
A large stained glass window above the main door of the church on O'Connell Street depicts scenes from the life of St Augustine: from left to right, his conversion, his consecration as a bishop, the writing of his confessions and the transfiguring experience with his mother Monica. The window is dedicated to the memory of Fr Joseph Hennessey, described by the community as the main driving force behind the building of the church.
Above the four main sections of the window are the symbols of the four evangelists, from left to right the bull for Luke, the man for Matthew, the eagle for John and the lion for Mark. Smaller sections below the main lights depict a book and quill, the Sacred Heart, the crest of the Augustinian order and the scales of justice.
