About Ray Presbyterian Church
Ray Presbyterian Church was built around 1746. The church has rendered walls under a pitched artificial slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows and an internal gallery.
History
The local Presbyterian community was established in 1647, making it the second oldest in Co. Donegal. A disagreement in 1747 over minister Revd William Laird led to the formation of the Secession Synod, with Ray becoming the first Seceder congregation in the county. The two factions reunited in 1840 to form the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, eventually merging into the single Ray congregation.
