About Lisburn Baptist Church

Lisburn Baptist Church is a Baptist church in Lisburn, County Antrim, a member of the Association of Baptist Churches in Ireland.

History

Lisburn Baptist Church was formed in May 1926 under the leadership of Pastor J Shields, and met first in a rented hall in Wallace Avenue and later in the Good Templar Hall, Linenhall Street. A site was acquired in 1928 in Priests Lane, since renamed Tonagh Avenue, and the church built there was opened for worship in April 1930.

The present church in Longstone Street was opened in May 1977 at a cost of £175,328. The original building, which had become the church hall, was demolished and a new suite of halls was completed in 2002. The church was renovated and re-opened for worship in November 2007; the work included a new roof and ceiling, a new pulpit, refurbishment of the pews, re-plastering and re-carpeting.
