About Knockconny Baptist Church
Knockconny Baptist Church is a Baptist church in Ballygawley, County Tyrone, a member of the Association of Baptist Churches in Ireland.
History
The congregation records that Knockconny Baptist Church was founded in 1807 by Pastor Daniel Cooke in the townland of Knockconny near Ballygawley. Pastor Matthew Simpson, who was blind, served Knockconny and Mullycar between 1884 and 1897 and preached regularly in other churches as well as these two. Through the early 1900s the congregation remained small and at one point seemed likely to close.
A new church was built on the Dungannon Road by the church members and was completed and opened in September 1961, carrying the Knockconny name to the new site. A hall was added to the church in 1982.
