History

The present building was opened in 1737, replacing two earlier churches at Knock and Breda. It was built at the expense of Lady Middleton, on a site provided by her son Arthur Hill.

For most of its history the parish was rural. During the twentieth century it became a suburban parish as the city of Belfast expanded around it.
