About Killiney St Matthias (Ballybrack)
Killiney St Matthias (Ballybrack) was built in 1835. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave, built of squared granite under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and pinnacles. It was designed by Frederick Darley Junior.
The building
Designed by Frederick Darley Junior and built in 1835, the church was improved in 1879-80 to designs by William John Welland. The structure features snecked granite walls, a three-stage tower with polygonal pinnacles, and a cruciform plan. Interior elements include an exposed timber roof, encaustic tiled dais, and stained glass by Heaton, Butler and Bayne, Catherine O'Brien, and Franz Mayer and Company.
