First Garvagh Presbyterian Church

History

The earliest records of the congregation have been lost, and its foundation is traditionally associated with the year 1641. Its first minister was the Rev John Law, who served from 1658 to 1673. The tenth minister, the Rev James Brown, who served from 1795 to 1839, baptised the Rev Henry Cooke.

The original church stood at Bridge Street, a few hundred yards from the present site; a stone tablet in the old cemetery there marks its position. The church building at Kilrea Road was opened and dedicated on 17 November 1971 by the Moderator of the General Assembly.
