Eglish Presbyterian Church

History

A Presbyterian church called Derryfubble was in existence by 1769, when an attempt to call Mr William Henry as minister was refused sanction by the Presbytery. David Holmes was afterwards secured as minister; he also had charge of Ballymagrane and lived in the Dyan area, midway between the two churches. A new church had been built at Eglish by 1800, during his ministry.

Holmes retired in 1802 and died in 1812. Eglish became a separate charge at the time of his resignation, and Hugh Bell was ordained as minister there on 23 December 1803.
