About Dunmanway St Edmund (Coolkelure)
Dunmanway St Edmund (Coolkelure) was built in 1863 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a three-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage tower, stained-glass windows and buttressed walls. It was designed by Henry Hill.
History
Commissioned by the Shuldham family, this Church of Ireland building stands close to the Coolkellure demesne. Its location reflects a mid-nineteenth century pattern where local gentry often patronised and supported such churches. The structure occupies a secluded position set back from the road within a graveyard.
