About Coleraine (Coleraine St Patrick)

Coleraine (Coleraine St Patrick) is a Church of Ireland church in Coleraine, County Derry. It is one of the churches in the parish of Coleraine St Patrick, in the Diocese of Connor.

History

According to tradition, St Patrick was the first to establish a place of Christian worship on this site, in the fifth century. In 1995 archaeologists discovered and investigated the foundations of a church dating from at least the fourteenth century. The foundations of a seventeenth-century church, built about 1614, were found to lie on top of these medieval foundations.

The present building was erected between 1883 and 1885. St Andrew's at Ballysally was consecrated in 1981 as a church plant of St Patrick's. Extensive restoration and renovation work costing around £1,000,000 was carried out on the church between 1995 and 1996.
