About Clonleigh St Lugadius (Lifford)
Clonleigh St Lugadius (Lifford) was built around 1622. It has a four-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, crenellated parapets, pinnacles and window tracery. The aisle was added in 1863.
Notable people
The church contains a wall monument to Sir Richard Hansard (died 1619) and his wife Dame Ann, dated c. 1622. The tower was added c. 1800 by the rector Revd. Daniel. The north aisle was designed in 1863 by Welland and Gillespie, with William Mullin as contractor. The graveyard includes the grave of George Gardiner (1821-91), who received the Victoria Cross for actions at Sebastopol in 1855.
