About Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Portroe
Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Portroe was built in 1872. It has a five-bay nave, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an open timber roof.
The building
The principal pointed-arch entrance has double-leaf timber-battened doors and an overlight set in a carved limestone doorcase with a hood moulding and block-and-start surround. The sacristy has both pointed-arch and flat-headed doorways with chamfered limestone surrounds.
