About Church of the Assumption, Delvin
Church of the Assumption, Delvin was built around 1873 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a six-bay nave. Notable features include a bell tower with a slender spire, stained-glass windows, window tracery and buttressed walls.
History
G. C. Ashlin was commissioned by the Nugent family of Clonyn Castle, who donated the site. The tower was designed with an additional stage that was never built because construction costs rose. Tradition holds that Ashlin reused plans first proposed for Moate after meeting the local parish priest on a train.
