About Ballygowan Presbyterian Church
Ballygowan Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland in Newtownards, County Down.
History
The church was built in 1838 as a Trinitarian Presbyterian church, at a period the congregation's own history describes as the height of the Old Light and New Light debate. It originally stood on the outskirts of Ballygowan and was later enclosed by the expansion of the village.
The church halls were erected in 1886 as an orphanage and were later used as the village primary school, until the 1980s, when the new Alexander Dickson Primary School was built.
