About Ballybrown Church (St Joseph)
Ballybrown Church (St Joseph) was built in 1831. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
The building
Originally a thatched structure, the church was altered and added to by architect William Edward Corbett in 1898. The interior features an ornate timber scissors truss ceiling with quadripartite vaulting and decorative ribs at the crossing. Carved limestone plinths support the pilasters, while the exterior displays snecked limestone walls and carved hoodmouldings over pointed arch openings.
