About Alt Presbyterian Church
Alt Presbyterian Church was built around 1834. The church has rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows and a bellcote.
History
The church is located south of Castlefinn near the border with Co. Tyrone. It may have replaced an earlier meeting house, with references to a Presbyterian site in Urney dating to 1654. Originally indicated as a Seceders Meeting House in 1837, it was associated with the Associate or Seceding Synod. The Revd. Samuel Stewart served as minister in 1881. A vestry was added c. 1900, and the Doric porch may be a late-nineteenth-century addition.
